When Elzhi’s & Will Session’s “Elmatic” project dropped I was more than excited to hear it. I’m a huge fan of Elzhi and everything he’s dropped has been very dope to me.
As soon as I heard Will Sessions re-interpretations of the already great original production i was enjoying this “Tribute” a lot.
Even DJ Premier gave his co-sign on the covers they did of his beats.
My favourite Song of the original illmatic LP was this very cut right here! (thanks to the memorable AZ verse) Don’t get me wrong though i love all of illmatic.
Anyway when i first saw that Royce da 5’9″ was featured on Elzhi’s take of the Song i was a bit unsure what to expect of it.
Royce has been quite hit and miss for me at the time this project dropped and i didn’t necessarily liked every verse he did up until this one.
When i got my hands on the Instrumental vinyl from Fat Beats i thought: “What if Nas and AZ would be rapping on this?”
So i experimented around for hours and created a Remix out of the new beat and the “old” vocals.
