M. Rock

M.Rock of Strongevity drops a dope solo project with Bask In The Flask and I’m really digging it. Here’s my breakdown of the project. Album stream follows. Check it out!

Track 1 Boom Baptism: The beat on this is chill as fuck. M.Rock does a good job of matching content and cadence with the track. I can fuck with this.

Track 2 Theme Music: This is a complete switch up from smooth to straight banger. It definitely took me by surprise. This track is dope *in rotation

Track 3 Slow Slicing: Short but effective track backed by an ill chaotic in a good way beat.

Track 4 Between Blinks: Decent track. Not my favorite but I wouldn’t skip it on the replay.

Track 5 I Ain’t Fucking Wit You: This goes! This is one of those tracks that will have you nodding your head but also mean mugging everybody (don’t act like I’m the only one) *In rotation

Track 6 I’m So Hip-hop: So my homeboy loves this track (he was here during initial listen) Myself I am on the fence. I didn’t really like it tbh. You decide.

Track 7 Rap Trivia: I love the concept of this song! Dope shit!

Track 8 Rugged Technique: I can definitely fuck with this. The scratches on this are ill. *in rotation

Track 9 CC’s: Another cool track, my only complaint is I wish the hook came harder.

Track 10 Moonlight Rituals: Good song bad beat selection. It doesn’t match up to me.

Track 11 S.O.H.K Athletics: This is dope. *in rotation

Track 12 Footnotes (Remix): Decent track. Again not my favorite but I wouldn’t skip it.

Track 13 Very Gutter: Another instance where I really like the lyrics but I wish he had chosen a different beat.

Track 14 Back Then: Re-recorded, originally released in 2006.

Track 15 Jack: Another re-recorded song. This was unexpected and heartfelt. Digging this *in rotation

Track 16 Nothing I Can Do: This is smooth. I can fuck with this.

Track 17 Shoutout To You: Fitting and strong closing track. *in rotation

M.Rock has come through with a great project. I pulled some tracks for my personal playlist, there are definitely some bangers on here. As part of Strongevity I understand why he chose to have no features on the album. On one hand it’s an opportunity for fans to see him shine and hold his own. On the flip side with a project this length and with his beat selections staying very level it can err on the monotonous side. That being said his content and lyricism keep the energy of the album flowing. There were a few bumps but I would definitely recommend adding this project to your collection. Definitely worth the listen.

Overall: B-
