Listen as Wordsworth spits that Wonderflow. Words is one of those emcees who has been consistent over the years. I wish more people recognize this man’s abilities on the microphone. Major ups to the fine folks over at Ego Trip for this one.
It’s great to see Yasiin Bey making music. I still have his albums in heavy rotation after all these years.
The B Side to The Roots Stella Artois promotion. Can you taste/hear the difference?
What does a sound taste like? Experience Bittersweet by The Roots, the first ever song you can taste. Based upon scientific research that explores the relationship between our senses, one side has been written to bring out the sweeter flavors in a Stella Artois, while the other enhances the bitter notes. Can you taste the difference?
New music from Chris Webby, Jarren Benton, and Locksmith titled Suicide Squad. Check it out and stop sleeping on Lock!
Light the Emcee and the Custodian of Records join forces to bring us the Gulf Clap. This one thumps!
If anyone can ride an Alchemist beat it’s REKS. “Kites” is off REKS The Greatest X set to drop September 9th.
This classic Raekwon album, Only Built For Cuban Linx turns drinking age today. That’s 21 for you smart/dumb motherfuc****. I thought it would be dope to repost this classic mix featuring the album’s instrumentals/originals and some other goodies. The Vinylcologist aka United Crates (7th Boro contributor and one hell of a DJ) created this for the 20th anniversary but I feel like it didn’t get the props it deserved. Play this shit. Enjoy this shit.
For those who don’t know what Spanglish is…..it’s a combination of Spanish and English in the same sentence or conversation. It’s used when a person isn’t sure how to pronounce a word in English or vice versa. Sometimes it’s used just for the hell of it. There are a few Hip Hop tracks that utilize the Spanglish language and do a great job of it. MC’s like Tony Touch, Thirstin’ Howl, and Chino Xl have mastered the art of Spanglish rap. Here are a few of my favorite cuts. Let me know which are your favorites or if I should add some.
First on the list is “Se Acabo” by the Beatnuts. This track flips both languages lovely. Magic Juan and Swinger did their thing on this too. Listen.
Next we have the Diaz Brothers. Doo Wop and Tony Touch (master of the Spanglish flow) dropped this joint on the first Piecemaker album. Spanglish at it’s best.
One of many dope cuts off Izm White’s “Wildlife” album. Go cop that!
I can’t believe it’s been twenty years since A Tribe Called Quest‘s Beats, Rhymes, and Life album dropped. I remember copping the CD with my brother on the day it dropped so I could have the limited edition hologram cover. Some would argue that it wasn’t their best album but it’s a classic nonetheless. Shout out to Chris Read for keeping the spirit of the tribe alive.
Keep an eye out for Tsu’s “2am” project set to drop next month. In the meantime, peep the latest video. Respect Jersey!
