The 7th Boro Files v.17[Jay-Z – Before The ROC Mixtape]

The other day Mills posted Jay-Z’s “This Date In Hip Hop History” and I was shocked that it’s been 15 years since the release of Reasonable Doubt. Being the Hip Hop fan that I am, I started listening to my Jay-Z collection on my Ipod. That’s when I came across this classic! It was buried in the unknown folder because I didn’t have it organized well in itunes. I downloaded this a few years ago and trust me when I tell you………this is CLASSIC material. You may have heard some joints on here but I guarantee you have not heard all of these (unless you’re a vinyl digger/music junkie). With that said, shout out to DJ Rhude who compiled and mixed this classic. I hope you enjoy this one as much as I do. Peace.

The 7th Boro Files v.16

In celebration of Prodigy’s release from prison and this weeks classic concert, I thought this would be a great time to share this. Peace.

The 7th Boro Files v.15 (Dead in the middle of….)

Major props to Step One for finding this gem. There has been a trillion remixes of “Twinz” but I’m really feeling the west coast vibe on this one. Listen.

The 7th Boro Files v.14 (Chicken Wings and French Fries)

I’ve been listening to a lot of Mobb Deep and Cormega the last few days. I decided to dust off Prodigy’s HNIC cd and came across this gem. I remember hearing this for the first time and just thinking to myself, “Fu**, this track is official!” Mega and Prodigy’s voices were made for this beat. Classic!

The 7th Boro Files v.13 (Sweeter Than A Mango!)

This is one of those tracks that you never forget because the beat and lyrics (especially Cormega’s verse) are so crazy. This beat is definitely in my top 20 all time! Listen to this QB goodness!

The 7th Boro Files v.12 (We Gon’ Buck!)

I know a lot of you might disagree with this one but I’m going to say it anyway. The Firm album would have been SO MUCH better if Cormega was on it. In my opinion, Mega has murdered every feature he has been on. I’m not taking anything away from Nature lyrically. I’m saying that Cormega’s delivery, style, and lyrics would have been more complimentary to Nas, AZ, and Foxy Brown. Here is an example of how Cormega saves a track. The first three verses are okay but Cormega delivers the goods! Imagine if this were a Firm track. Listen.

The 7th Boro Files v.11 (Fat Joe vs. Masta Ace)

I remember hearing this on one of Tony Touch’s Hip Hop mixtapes. I never understood why these two had an issue with each other. Fat Joe had a problem with Masta Ace representing the west and called him out in a magazine article. Masta Ace responded with the following.Listen.

The 7th Boro Files v.10 (MC’s Must Get Dissed)

Here is a little something out of the archives. I sometimes feel that classics shouldn’t be remixed. This one definitely compliments the original though. Listen.

The 7th Boro Files v.9 (Something for the Latinos!)

I remember when I first heard this joint. I was in K Banger’s basement sipping on some ice tea. When the track came on I really felt like whipping the glass of iced tea across the room. I was pretty amped to say the least.
Listen to the song in its entirety. It’s pretty amazing. Support Hip Hop! Bless.

The 7th Boro Files v.8

Mills just posted a Thirstin Howl video below and it reminded me of this joint. Listen to Thirstin Howl’s verse. It’s my favorite Thirstin verse of all time with Babee Movas coming in at a close second!
